58 couples scammed out of their money by wedding organizer

Just as 58 couples were about to embark on a new chapter in their lives, they had to face the cold realization that they might not have enough money to pay for their weddings.

Their money was stolen by their own wedding organizer, whom the police is identifying with the initials WB.

“We want to get married, but we were tricked by WB. All of us lost tens of millions of rupiah,” said Niko Septianus, one of WB’s victims, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

To pull off her scam, WB initially asked the couples for a 30% down payment from the agreed price for her services. Two months later, she’d ask for 50% of the payment while promising her clients a free holiday tour to Bali.

Then, she’d ask for 75% of the payment, this time promising her clients they’d be driven in a luxurious Toyota Alphard on their wedding day.

After receiving the payments, WB disappeared without a trace. Her store was also emptied out.

So far, 58 couples reported WB to the Cengkareng Police in West Jakarta. Unfortunately, WB’s whereabouts are still unknown and the picture perfect wedding parties for the 58 couples are currently at risk.
