This may go down as one of the most improbable tales of survival in Jakarta.

A 55-year-old woman, identified by her initials AN, merely suffered a fracture in her left arm after falling off the balcony of her 21st floor apartment in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.

Police said AN fell right onto a parked Toyota Yaris, smashing the vehicle’s roof. While the small hatchback sustained heavy damage, witnesses say AN just lied down facing up on top of the vehicle until apartment residents came to her aid and took her to a nearby hospital.

“Praise God she was alright. She just suffered a broken left arm,” Kelapa Gading Police Chief Vokky Sagala said.

To the police, AN said she was hanging out her laundry on her balcony when she slipped and fell off.

Nonetheless, police have launched an investigation into the incident to verify her claim.
