Parts of the Club Bali Hotel, located in the Kota Bunga area of Puncak in Cianjur, collapsed early Wednesday morning, trapping several people inside the hotel.
The structural collapse of the hotel was believed to have been caused by a landslide from a nearby cliff, which was brought about by heavy rainfall in the area over the past few days.
According to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), 11 guests were staying at the hotel (not including hotel staff) during the collapse, 3 of whom have been confirmed to be dead.
In the latest rescue effort update by Kompas this morning, the police believe that there could still be up to 5 people trapped inside the collapsed hotel.
“There are clearly 3, but we predict there may be 5 people trapped in the wreckage,” said Cianjur Police Chief Asep Guntur, as quoted by Kompas today.
Rescue efforts resumed at 7am today after they were suspended overnight due to heavy rain.
