A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Sukabumi in West Java this morning, in what has been described as a moderate tectonic activity with no tsunami potential.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake struck at a depth of 122 kilometers in Sukabumi at 7:50am.
Sukabumi is located some 100 kilometers south of Jakarta. Indeed, citizens of the capital and its surrounding cities reported minor shaking when the earthquake struck this morning.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or major damages in Sukabumi.
On Nov. 20, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the West Java regency of Cianjur. The shallow nature of the quake made it more destructive, as thousands of buildings collapsed during the major disaster.
At least 334 people were killed in the Cianjur quake, while more than 7,000 were injured.
