Most ladies go to arisan to socialize (ie gossip), but two sisters used the opportunity to kidnap a 4-month-old baby.
The mother, Diana Beby Kilah (35), had only recently given birth to her first child, Lionel Steward Afriel Mirahua, 4 months ago. It seems her friends from her arisan, sisters Eva (22) and Evi (30), couldn’t resist the baby boy’s overwhelming cuteness.
“Way before the incident, Eva often messaged me on BBM, saying, ‘your baby is so handsome.’ She also asked if she could babysit my son,” Diana said, as quoted by Vivanews yesterday.
But Diana turned down Eva’s request to babysit Lionel. Then, after an arisan on August 25, Diana and Eva were driving a friend home. Diana left Lionel at home in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, with his babysitter, Mariam.
Suddenly, Diana received a phone call from Mariam, who frantically told her that Lionel was missing. Hearing this, Eva excused herself and got out of the vehicle in the middle of the road.
Mariam then told Diana the crucial information that Evi had earlier come by the house with two men to visit Diana. Evi told her that she’d wait for Diana to return and asked Mariam to go outside to buy snacks and that she’d watch Lionel. Mariam agreed, only to find them all gone when she returned.
Diana immediately reported the case to the Tanjung Priok Police. Later in the day, the police arrested Eva and Evi in BSD, South Tangerang. Fortunately, Lionel was unhurt during the kidnapping.
The police are still trying to determine whether Eva and Evi had other motives in kidnapping Lionel other than wanting to raise the baby themselves. The two men who served as their accomplices have not yet been located.
