The South Jakarta Metro Police arrested four men who allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl, identified as Y, yesterday in Pancoran, South Jakarta.
Police said the four suspects, identified as IP (39), MR (23), AI (20) and AS (28) are believed to have gotten Y drunk before they raped her on Wednesday evening.
“At first they were hanging out, maybe they got her to drink alcohol until she got drunk before Y was sexually assaulted,” said Pancoran Police Chief Commissioner Aswin, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.
Y was found in an intoxicated state at a graveyard in Pancoran in the early hours of Thursday morning after the suspects allegedly left her there after their attack.
The suspects were arrested yesterday afternoon, not far from the graveyard, after the police received reports from the victim’s family and locals. It’s not yet known what charges they will face.
This is unfortunately one more of many cases of sexual violence against minors that has been reported this year. Activists say the government needs to take immediate action to strengthen the laws against sexual violence in this country, instead of placing the blame in cases like this on things like alcohol consumption.
