30 doctors will attempt to separate conjoined twin babies at Harapan Kita Hospital this Saturday

Separating conjoined twins can be among the most complex, difficult and dangerous of all medical procedures to perform. That’s why a team of 30 medical specialists are coming to Harapan Kita Hospital in West Jakarta this Saturday, to take part in an operation that will hopefully save the lives of 10-month-old conjoined twins Maxon and Maxen.

Didi Danukusumo, one of the surgeons who will be taking part in the separation procedure, said that they needed a number of specialists, including a thoracic surgeon, due to the complex nature of the twin’s conjoinment.

Maxon and Maxen were born on April 28, 2015, at the Harapan Kita Hospital. They have spent most of their young lives inside a special observation room inside the hospital.

The babies’ parents, 32-year-old Roy and 35-year-old Linda, said they hope the operation goes smoothly without any complications, with Roy telling Kompas “Hopefully, my two children will be safe.”

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Roy, Linda, Maxon, Maxen and all of the medical professional that will be involved in the procedure this Saturday.
