3 injured as KRL Commuterline train scrapes Transjakarta bus on Kebon Jeruk railway crossing

A Transjakarta bus picking up passengers on Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.

Three people received minor injuries after a KRL Commuterline train scraped against a Transjakarta bus which reportedly tried to go through a railway crossing in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, despite it being closed off at the time to let the train pass.

The train reportedly slightly scraped against the front-left side of the bus. Two motorcyclists who were positioned near the bus were injured from the resulting impact, as well as a passenger on board the bus.

The bus driver, 44-year-old Atmajaka, may be punished for negligence.

“He was made into a suspect on November 28,” said Budiyanto, head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate at the Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Directorate, as quoted by BeritaSatu today.

Atmajaka could face up to 1 year in prison for negligent behavior on the road that led to the injury of others.

While we may expect such negligent behavior on the road from drivers of old city buses like Metrominis or Kopajas, the fact that a Transjakarta bus driver did this is quite surprising. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident and isn’t a sign that Transjakarta drivers are becoming as undisciplined as other Jakarta bus drivers.
