Three boys, ages 12-13, in Karawang, West Java, have been accused of having sex with a goat and sexually abusing six other minors.
Police began investigating the case earlier this month after receiving reports from some parents that the trio of suspects had abused their children. Allegedly the abuse and bestiality took place on July 20.
A local leader from the area the boys are from, Endang Tarmidzi, told the media that the three had confessed to their immoral actions and said they had been motivated by watching (according to state-run news agency Antara) “adult scenes on Youtube”.
“The victims also confessed, afterward the three actors took turns doing immoral acts with a goat,” Endang said.
As part of the investigation, an officer from the Karawang Social Office conducted a mental health examination on the three suspects, two of whom are 12 and one of whom is 13.
“My initial conclusion, I think it happened because of their ignorance,” Local social worker Dyah Palupi Ekayanti told Tempo on Monday.
Dyah said it appeared as if the boys did it out of curiosity, noting that one of the boys often plays with his smartphone and found pornographic videos that led to unusual sexual behavior.
However, Dyah also mentioned that the boys did not have good relationships with their parents, who she said were busy working just to feed them and didn’t have the ability to monitor their education or friends.
Authorities have not yet mentioned any legal actions that will be taken against the accused. The Indonesian justice system generally tries to settle cases involving underage suspects outside of court.
In 2012, a Balinese teenager from a village in Jembrana was caught having sex with a cow and passed out when he was forced to marry the beast (as part of a ritual to cleanse the village of his defilement). The cow was then drowned in the sea.
