As if the large number of corruption cases involving Indonesian civil servants (PNS) wasn’t bad enough, thousands of PNS who have already been convicted on corruption charges remain on the government’s payroll, causing further losses to the state.
A spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Febri Diansyah, said that they had received a report from State Civil Service Agency (BKN) that there were a staggering 2,357 PNS who had been convicted of corruption but still had active employment status and thus were still being paid.
Although BKN had placed all of the convicted PNS on a block list, none of them had not been officially dismissed by their respective ministries or regional heads in their capacities as Official Personnel Supervisors (PPK).
“So there are around 2,357 civil servants who have been blocked but still receive salaries since they have not been dismissed by their respective PPKs,” Febri explained as quoted by Okezone yesterday.
Febri told reporters that all PPK officials had to fulfill their duties and immediately dismiss all of the convicted civil servants under their charge to prevent further state losses, warning them that the Ministry of Home Affairs could give them severe sanctions if they did not.
From the BKN data obtained by the KPK, there are 14 regions that are still paying convicted civil servants. They include Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Makassar, Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Jayapura, Denpasar, Manado, Pekanbaru, Banda Aceh, and Manokwari.
The KPK also called upon all 2,357 corruption convicts to return the salaries they had wrongfully received from the state. Hmm, good luck with that.
