Last week’s story about the wife of a police general slapping an airport security officer was one of the most viral in Indonesia, and, shockingly enough, it was followed by yet another slapping incident involving a security officer at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Friday.
A representative of PT Angkasa Pura II, the state-owned enterprise that manages Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport, told the media that they’d evaluate of their employees’ customer service chops to prevent more slapping incidents from taking place.
“We will carry out an evaluation. Essentially, they can be assertive but not fierce,” said Soekarno-Hatta Senior General Manager Muhammad Suriawan Wakan, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
Specifically, Wakan said that 2,000 aviation security employees at Soekarno-Hatta will undergo training on how to be more friendly and to smile more when passengers go through security checkpoints.
On Friday, a military doctor identified as AG allegedly slapped an airport security officer at a security checkpoint in Soekarno-Hatta because the latter was supposedly being impolite towards him. The incident was not reported to the police because the two had already apologized and made peace with each other.
On Wednesday, the wife of a police general became the subject of a viral video after she was filmed slapping a security officer at Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport. She was later questioned by police but it remains to be seen if she will continue to be investigated for assault after her victim publicly accepted her apology.
So, security officers, apparently it’s not them. It’s you.
