Normally you wouldn’t think the courts would bother with two people fighting over something like a handbag. But they are in this case, because it’s a Hermes handbag worth an absurd Rp 950 million.
Seriously, that’s ridiculous. You can buy a very decent house in Jakarta or a luxury car with that kind of money. We fail to grasp how a handbag, which just, y’know, holds stuff, could possibly be worth that much.
Anyways, back in 2013, Jakartan socialite Margaret Vivi bought a Hermes bag from Devita Friska for Rp 850 million. Months later, Devita offered to buy the bag back from Margaret for Rp 950 million. Thinking she’d make an easy Rp 100 million profit, Margaret agreed.
Devita was supposed to pay for the bag in two installments. She made her first Rp 500 million payment, but kept stalling on the second payment.
Margaret couldn’t wait any longer so she reported Devita to the cops. Their court session was held at the Central Jakarta District Court today.
“In truth, the Rp 450 million isn’t a problem for me. But this is to teach a lesson to her (Devita) and so that other people won’t have to experience what I went through,” Margaret said today, as quoted by Detik.
Losing Rp 450 million isn’t a problem for you? Why don’t you say that in front of the city’s starving street kids, lady? You’re part of the reason poverty exists and we hate you.
