16 Indonesians detained in Turkey unrelated to the 16 who went missing last month

Acting National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti

The Indonesian National Police confirmed that the 16 Indonesians detained by Turkish authorities are not the same 16 Indonesians who went missing in Turkey late last month.

The 16 detained citizens were suspected of trying to cross the Turkish border into Syria to join ISIS. Whereas the other group of 16 are still missing after going on holiday in Turkey.

“The 16 people [who went to Turkey] with Smiling Tour have not been found. Now there is another group of 16 detained by Turkish authorities,” said acting National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti, as quoted by Detik today.

Not that we’re glad the 16 people on holiday are still missing, but at least they did not join up with ISIS. After all, six of them are still children.
