We’ve just made it past the halfway point of March, yet the Jakarta Police have already ticketed 15,709 motorists for driving against the flow of traffic as of yesterday.
“Most of the vehicles driving against traffic are motorcycles, because motorcycles can slalom past [other vehicles],” said Hindarsono Danial of the Jakarta Police Traffic Dept, as quoted by Warta Kota today.
From the 15,709 wrong-way driving violations, the police confiscated 6,279 drivers’ licenses, 9,424 vehicle registrations, and 10 motorcycles.
The Jakarta Police are focusing on stamping out wrong-way driving in March and April. They’ll turn their attention to the wearing of helmets in May and June.
