An explosion occurred at Universitas Indonesia’s (UI) Chemical Qualitative Analysis Pharmaceutical Lab in Depok on Monday at around 10:30am.

Out of the 70 students in the lab at the time of the explosion, 15 were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“Two were severely injured and were treated at Bunda Hospital,” said Devfanny Aprilia Artha, head of the UI Pharmaceutical Faculty’s Public Relations Department, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

The two were transferred to eye specialists as they were said to be hit by shards of glass in the explosion. The others were discharged from the hospital, as their injuries were considered minor.

It was not revealed exactly who or what caused the explosion in the lab.
