The Commission for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI) are protesting after a 14-year-old girl, who is allegedly a victim of rape and human trafficking, was named a suspect in a fraud case.
The head of KPAI, Asrorun Niam, said the teenage girl from Bogor was a human trafficking victim and was raped in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta last February.
“She met three brokers in Bogor, and she was promised an audition and a salary of Rp 12 million per month,” Niam said, as quoted by Detik today.
The girl and her pregnant mother received a down payment of Rp 2 million for the girl. She was then taken to Kelapa Gading, where she was drugged and raped for two days.
“When she woke up, there was a blood stain on the victim’s pants. She cried and left the place in a taxi back to Bogor,” Niam said.
The girl and her mother reported the incident to the Bogor police, which led to the arrest of one of the rape suspects. But not long after that, the girl and her mother were named suspects in a mysterious fraud case by the Kelapa Gading Police Department.
Someone then phoned the girl and her mother asking them to drop the rape case. In return, the caller promised to acquit the girl and her mother of the fraud charges, as well as promising them Rp 50 million.
Thankfully, the girl and her mother reported the case to the KPAI. The KPAI will now advocate for the girl and her pregnant mother, as well as placing them under the care of the Witness and Victims Protection Agency (LPSK).
