Meet “Indonesia Etc” author Elizabeth Pisani at @america (Sept. 25)

Elizabeth Pisani has been traveling to Indonesia for 25-years, first as journalist and later as an epidemiologist focusing on HIV. She recently decided to go on a journey across our country to find out what holds Indonesia together, despite all of its diversity and contradictions, and where the country’s soul truly lies. The results of her travels is the recently release, “Indonesia Etc.” which she’ll be discussing at the @america cultural center in Pacific Place on Thursday (Sept 25).

Pisani’s book traveled to some of the archipelago’s most remote islands, places that many Jakartans have never even heard of, let alone visited, to get a holistic view of a country. Her book has earned positive reviews in The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor and The Economist, which said “Indonesia Etc” is “probably the best” book in English for general readers that want to get an idea of what Indonesia is all about.

Pisani has an engaging style that comes through in both her writing and her public appearances (as you can see in her TED talk on HIV below) so her appearance at @america is sure to be of interest to book lovers and Indophiles alike.
