With so many events and gigs vying for your attention, it can be hard to know just where you should be spending your precious weekend nightlife hours. So every week we’re going to put together a list of what we predict will be the top party spots for Friday and Saturday, so you can waste less time at lame events and more time getting your groove on.
Friday, Sept 5
Umbra Grand Re-Opening Party with Gramophonedzie
Umbra, one of Kemang’s more reliably lively clubs, is celebrate their grand reopening with a special performance by Gramophonedzie. Even if you’re not familiar with the internationally renowned Serbian DJ, you’ve almost certainly heard his hit single “Why Don’t You,” his super catchy funky house track that remixes Peggy Sue’s sultry “Why Don’t You Do Right” from 1947.

Jennifer Rene @ Colosseum Club
The ravishing Jennifer Rene, a”Dance DJ Diva” from America who has collaborated with such heavy hitters as Armin Van Buuren, is coming to Colosseum, one of our favorite new clubs in the city. They should be a perfect match for one another.

Saturday, Sept 7
Transformation: X2 Soft Opening Party Featuring Kyau & Albert
While X2 has always been regarded as one of the most happening clubs in the city, when most people were referring to X2 they were actually talking about Equinox, it’s upstairs sibling club that is focused on R&B and remains perpetually packed on weekends. X2, which specializes in hard house and other EDM, was rarely as crowded and just didn’t have the same electric vibe as Equinox.
That might just change starting this weekend, when X2 celebrates it’s soft reopening after undergoing extensive enovations. In the word’s of the this video teaser for the reopening, “The superclub X2 with it’s unparalleled elegance of newly designed interiors will be a mesmerizing candy to the eye, fully transformed to reach the highest level edgy luxury.” (Clearly no expense was spared on the rennovation since they didn’t have any money left over for a copy editor.)
Headlining Saturday night’s party are German trance music legends Kyau & Albert, who have ranked among DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll several years in a row.

Fable is one of the city’s swankiest clubs, but they’re not afraid to get geeky sometimes. Head to their School of Party dressed up in theme appropriate attire, such as “glasses, suspenders, bowties, high socks, plaid skirts and dress shirts” and you can get in the door for free (and considering their usual Rp. 200k FDC, it’s probably worth enduring a little embarrasment).
