Metropolis isn’t just the city where Superman lives. If you’re a fan of cinematic history then you should already know that “Metropolis,” a dystopian science fiction epic which was released in Germany in 1927, is widely considered one of the most influential movies of all time, with an especially huge impact on future sci-fi films.
Whether you’ve seen the iconic classic of German expressionism before or want to check it out for the first time, this Saturday you’ll have the chance to see “Metropolis” as it was truly meant to be seen – on a big screen with a live orchestra playing its original score.

For the official opening of “German Fest”, a celebration of German-Indonesian relations lasting from September to December, the Goethe-Institut is flying in 60 musicians from the renowned German Film Orchestra Babelsberg to play for the film’s audience at Taman Ismail Marzuki. Not only that, the film will be screened at TIM’s open-air atrium. It’s sure to be a unique one-of-a-kind cinematic event which we probably won’t see again in Jakarta for a very long time.
