Indonesian film director Sidi Saleh came onto our radar after he won the Orizzonti Award for best short film at this year’s Venice International Film Festival for his film “Maryam”, one of our top films of 2014.
But Sidi had been working on films long before his triumph with “Maryam”. Recently, another short film he directed back in 2013, titled “Fitri”, has popped up on Youtube. The story of a prostitute trying to make it back to her hometown for Lebaran, it examines similar themes to “Maryam” which also focused on a woman in the midst of crisis who finds grace from an unexpected source.
The amazing acting and heart-wrenching, twisting tale definitely make this worth about 20 minutes of your time.
