Either these people love Nike shoes too much, or they just love huge discounts.
Grand Indonesia shopping mall in Central Jakarta is holding a sales event for Nike shoes from August 21-27, with discounts supposedly up to 90% (not necessarily saying this applies to this particular event, but we’ve grown skeptical of huge discounts in Indonesia since merchants tend to mark up the original retail prices on items before applying the discount).
Yesterday, thousands reportedly showed up to go shoe sale shopping at the same time, which resulted in the chaotic scenes as seen in the above video.
The sales area was so packed with customers that they toppled a room partition at the entrance. Inside, shoes and boxes were strewn all over the floor, making it really difficult, we imagine, for one to find a shoe’s matching pair.
There were no reports of anybody actually getting injured in a fight over shoes, thankfully.
We’d rather get a pair of cheap knockoffs at Mal Ambassador, or even pay the exorbitant ordinary price for Nike shoes rather than have to face a crowd that desperate for some discount footwear.
