Ever since it was announced, we’ve been giddy with anticipation for Joko Anwar’s Halfworlds, the acclaimed Indonesian film director’s TV series debut for HBO Asia.
Three new teaser videos were uploaded to the TV show’s Facebook page over the past few days. Though they don’t reveal much, the stylish shots certainly give off a certain Sin City-esque sense of badassery.
The first two teaser videos above feature Indonesian actors Arifin Putra (The Raid 2; Macabre) and Adinia Wirasti (Tentang Dia; Laura & Marsha). You may have noticed that Adinia’s character sports a pop-out wrist blade like in the video game series Assassin’s Creed, so we’re hoping that Halfworlds can deliver some similarly brutally awesome action.
According to a synopsis on Twitchfilm, Halfworlds “reveals a hidden universe in the alleys and backstreets of present day Jakarta where an underground society of demons known as the Demits have lived among us for centuries. As the series unfolds, this delicate balance is disrupted and will bring mortals and demits hurtling towards their destiny.”
In addition to the two actors featured in the teaser videos, the eight-episode TV series also stars Reza Rahadian (Habibie & Ainun; Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto), Aimee Saras (Musical Onrop) and newcomer Salvita Decorte in the leading role. Joko Anwar wrote and directed all of the show’s eight episodes.
Halfworlds is due to debut on HBO Asia some time at the end of 2015.
