Veteran actor Frans Tumbuan passes away at 75

Frans Tumbuan, a veteran actor who has graced the Indonesian silver screen since the late ‘70s, passed away this morning at the age of 75.

According to Merdeka, Frans passed away at the Mayapada Hospital in Cilandak, South Jakarta, where he has been treated for diabetes for some time.

However, there has been no official word as to Fran’s cause of death.

Many of the younger generation may recognize Frans Tumbuan as the father to Cinta (portrayed by Dian Sastro) in the acclaimed major teen romantic drama hit Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (2002).

But Frans Tumbuan’s silver screen debut actually dates back to 1978 with Bung Kecil, and he has starred in countless films since. His last major role was as General Sriyono in the Hollywood-Indonesia collaboration Java Heat (2013) alongside Mickey Rourke and Ario Bayu.
