Indonesian metalheads are in for a treat this year, as American progressive metal band Dream Theater is confirmed to return to the capital for a concert on April 16 at Allianz Ecopark Ancol, North Jakarta.

As announced by promoter Rajawali Indonesia, the concert is a part of their world tour, Distance over Time, to promote their latest album of the same name as well to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their fifth album, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. It marked an important milestone in the band’s history, as it was also their first concept album.

This will be the fourth time for the metal legends to play in Indonesia, as they previously performed in Jakarta in 2012 and 2014, as well as in Yogyakarta in 2017.

Ticket sales for the concert will be divided into three phases, presale begins on Feb. 8, regular tickets on Feb. 9, and on the spot — the first two categories kick off at 12 noon on Tiketapasaja. Presale tickets are priced at IDR700k (US$51) for Festival A and IDR400k (US$29.30) for Festival B; while the regular prices are at IDR900k (US$65.87) and IDR600k (US$43.90), respectively. All prices are before tax.

We wonder if Indonesia’s Metalhead of State, President Joko Widodo will attend the concert this year, as he missed the band’s performance back in 2012, when he was still the mayor of Solo.

Dream Theater was formed in 1985 under the name of Majesty, and the band currently consists of vocalist James LaBrie, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess, and drummer Mike Mangini.

They have released 14 studio albums so far, starting from their 1989 debut When Dream and Day Unite, and received two Grammy Award nominations throughout their career.
