Fast & Furious 7
The production of the latest installment in the Fast & Furious series hit a huge snag when lead actor Paul Walker tragically died in a car crash on November 2013, after half of Fast & Furious 7 had already been filmed. After several re-writes and the use of CGI and Walker’s brothers as body doubles to portray Brian O’Conner, the long-awaited sequel is finally here to please diehard fans.
Should you watch it? The trailer itself shows off the over-the-top action scenes that fans of the series know to expect. But 7 is more than just about cars and explosions; it’s an emotional ride and a fitting send-off to the late Paul Walker. And that’s a good thing – the movie currently has a score of 8.5 on IMDB.
Melancholy is a Movement
Acclaimed Indonesian movie director Joko Anwar makes his debut as a lead actor in Melancholy is a Movement. Joko portrays a version of himself – a successful director who, during a period of financial crisis, is forced to make a religious film, a genre he has always avoided in the past.
Should you watch it? More often than not, we’ve been impressed by Joko Anwar’s films like Modus Anomali and Janji Joni, and perhaps Melancholy would’ve worked better with him behind the camera. That’s not to say Joko does a terrible job as a lead actor (he was actually quite engaging), but the film itself tries to be so thought provoking that it collapses under the weight of its own ill-conceived pretense.
