CJR The Movie: Lawan Rasa Takutmu
Teen boy band Coboy Junior takes on Australia in their second movie feature. Three of the four remaining Coboy Junior members must challenge their fears down under (by skydiving and doing other fun activities) before they can use the experience to go back to Indonesia to perform in a mega concert.
Should you watch it? Probably not even if your kids scream and beg to watch the movie. Even loyal Coboy Junior fans shouldn’t look beyond the fact this is just a cheap cash-grab excuse for a movie (don’t forget that a Coboy Junior member charged fans a handsome amount of money just to attend his birthday party)
If you need any more proof as to why this movie should be avoided, check out Rio Dewanto’s cringe worthy attempt at an Australian accent (1:10 and 1:35 in the trailer).
Kapan Kawin?
30-something Dinda (Andini Wirasti) has found success in her career, but she is facing pressure from her parents because she hasn’t even thought about marriage. She hires an actor Satrio (Reza Rahadian) to play her boyfriend when she takes a trip to Yogyakarta to visit her parents.
Should you watch it? Kapan Kawin? packs no surprises as it employs the tried and tested romantic comedy formula in which two people who really don’t belong with each other eventually end up together. Reza Rahadian is always a delight to watch, though, and there should be enough laughs in this movie for a fun night out with your partner.
Whiplash
Whiplash follows young Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), a promising jazz drummer who enrolls in the most prestigious music school in the US. There, he joins a jazz ensemble where he is mentored by Terrence Fletcher (J.K Simmons), whose unorthodox teaching methods threatens to push Neiman over the edge.
Should you watch it? Do not miss a beat of this movie! Who knew that a movie about jazz drumming could be so much more intense and electrifying than most action movies out there? J.K Simmons deserves his Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and Miles Teller continues to show that he is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. Whiplash is easily one of the best movies to have come out in 2014.
