She’s back in the silence and wickedness of the night — the trailer for Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion dropped yesterday, in which we can see hints towards questions that were left unanswered in Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slave), which was released in 2017.

Just like the first film, the sequel is written and directed by Joko Anwar. Slated for cinematic release on Aug. 4, Pengabdi Setan 2 is set a few years after the end of the first film, which will see the return of the leads, namely Tara Basro (Rini), Bront Palarae (Bahri Suwono or “Bapak”), Endy Ardian (Toni), Nasar Annuz (Bondi), M. Adhiyat (Ian), Egi Fedly (Budiman), and, last but not least, Ayu Laksmi (Mawarni Suwono or “Ibu”).

After the events of the first film which saw them leaving their house in the village, the family moves to a rumah susun (colloquially abbreviated to rusun) in the city, which are subsidized apartment buildings. The horror follows them there, with rusun residents acting weird and terrorizing the family. On top of all that, Bapak seems to have a mysterious new job.

Asmara Abigail (Darmina) and Fachry Albar (Batara), who were seen in the end of the first movie, will also return for the sequel. Aside from the returning cast, there will be some fresh faces including Ratu Felisha (who was last seen in Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash), Jourdy Pranata, Kiki Narendra, and Muzakki Ramdhan (who starred in Joko’s superhero flick Gundala).
