The Ten Most Fashionable Women in Jakarta (on Instagram)

Photo: Sonia Erkya / Instagram

Lately, the fashion sense of Jakarta’s young urbanites is getting less uniform and more individualistic. Thanks to a growing market for the creations of innovative, independent local designers, high-end luxury brands are (thankfully) becoming increasingly passé as stylish Jakartans embrace a whole range of varied looks – from hip-vintage-queens to cool androgynous minimalism, and everything in between and beyond.

Of course the Internet has a big role in helping to promote this fashion revolution. The forefront of the sartorial scene is no longer on the streets or in the malls – it’s on Instagram. Many of Jakarta’s most fashionable women have developed cult followings on the photo sharing network, and some have even spun off their online presence into real world businesses.

It’s hard to choose between so many gorgeous, stylish gals, but here are the ten Instagrammers we think are at the top of Jakarta’s fashion scene.

1. Pupu Paula(@pupupaula)
She can pull off cool vintage inspired dresses and skirts like no other. Paula’s signature style embodies a sense of old-school glam, embellished by the kinds of accessories that look like they could be found at the thrift store, next to the indie record store. Her cute tattoos complete her persona. You can find more of her looks on her website hellopupu.com.

2. Evita Nuh (@nuhevita)
Evita is a stylish sixteen year old with a cool sense of fashion that is entirely her own. She can pull of anything from a leather jacket to a tutu-inspired skirt and turn it into an outfit unlike any other. Her impeccable sense of style has helped her launch a line of fashionable bags, EN.PENS, that can be purchased online through its own Instagram page

3. Yumna Kemal (@yumnakemal)
Yumna’s style is simple but screams young at the heart of it. The short haired fashionista is often spotted in sneakers and skirt, a combo that only those with a kick-ass attitude can pull off.

6. Michelle Koesnadi (@mkoesnadi)

7. Andra Alodita (@alodita)
The stylish photographer turned blogger just had her first baby, but that doesn’t mean she is trading fashion for comfort. During her pregnancy, she mixed loose fitting jackets with stylish bottoms to keep her look as on point as ever. She’s also lucky to have that certain x-factor that makes even the simplest white shirt to look like a million dollars on her.

8. Claradevi Handriatmadja (@lucedaleco)
With her tall and lean figure, Claradevi can easily pull of any kind of trend. However, we think she’s at her best with her androgynous, monochromatic outfits, which we keep seeing on her Instagram lately. You can see more of her looks on her blog www.lucedale.co.

9. Nabila Tarmuzi Alaydrus (@nabilazirus)
This creative director and illustrator mixes prints and loose fitting pieces to create quirky combinations and utterly unique designs. Nabila shows exactly why modesty and style don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Nabila has even founded her own clothing label which can be found online on Shopee.

10. Nikita Kusuma (@nikitakusuma)
Looking at Nikita’s Instagram is like watching a really fashionable Korean drama. He outfits are unapologetically cute and she can wear anything from skinny pants to a ladylike miniskirt and make it into a statement on girl power.
