Produced by Screenplay Bumilangit, the superhero flick is directed by Upi (My Stupid Boss 1 & 2, My Generation) with screenplay written by herself and Joko Anwar. Sri Asih is landing two years after the first film in the BCU, Gundala (2019), which was written and directed by Joko.
The trailer opens with senior actress Christine Hakim’s monologue about the “people who do good for life” and those who are “full of hate and malice who destroy and bring misery.” We then see our hero, Sri Asih, when she was a child and as an adult, played by Pevita Pearce.

A mysterious figure is heard saying, “We’ve been waiting for you, Sri Asih,” before she did a superhero landing at the end of the trailer.
Sri Asih is slated for a cinematic release this year, though no date has been specified at the time of publishing. There will also be new BCU releases coming up, including Virgo and The Sparklings starring Adhisty Zara as well as Tira, a series starring Chelsea Islan slated for release on Disney+ Hotstar.
According to the timeline of the comics, the Bumilangit Universe consists of four fictional superhero eras, namely Legenda (Legends), Jawara (Warriors), Patriot (Patriots), and Revolusi (Revolution). The seven films in the first volume of the BCU are from the Jawara and Patriot eras.
The Jawara era features warriors from the Nusantara (archipelago) kingdoms of the 13th-15th centuries, with its most prominent characters including Si Buta dari Gua Hantu and Mandala.
The Patriot era is the time of present day superheroes, led by Gundala and Sri Asih — the latter considered the first superhero in Indonesia ever with the inaugural edition of her comic being released in 1954.
