South Korea’s Psy to bring ‘Gangnam Style’ to ICE BSD City (November 24)

Love it or hate it, nobody could’ve lived through 2012 and 2013 without hearing South Korean popstar Psy’s one-hit wonder ‘Gangnam Style’. Four years after the song’s release, having already been relegated to nothing more than Internet nostalgia to many a millennial, Psy is coming to Indonesia for his first ever concert in the country.

But Psy won’t be here for an exclusive concert – he’s going to be the headline act for mobile phone makers Oppo’s music festival at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, South Tangerang. So expect to be be handed a whole bunch of promotional leaflets before you’ve even seen him doing his imaginary horseriding dance.

“Psy gave us an inspiration, wherein his video (Gangnam Style) was liked by billions of fans around the world. It’s the same with our aim to be a smartphone brand that is liked by users around the world, including Indonesia,” wrote Oppo Indonesia CEO Ivan Lau in a press release, as picked up by Tempo today.

Psy was scheduled to perform in Jakarta in July 2013, but the concert was cancelled because of forest fire haze from Riau and the fact that it coincided with the fasting month of Ramadan.

Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ video has been watched over 2.6 billion times on Youtube, becoming the most watched video of all time on the video streaming website. Eh, why not add one or two views to the count while we’re at it?
