If you were disappointed by the super brief screen time of “The Raid” stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian in “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” (technically a spoiler, but c’mon everyone must have seen that movie by now), you’ll be comforted by the fact that the lethal on-screen duo will be front and center battling aliens in their next Hollywood sci-fi action film, “Beyond Skyline”.
We first reported about “Beyond Skyline” over a year ago when the movie was still in its production phase. Now it looks like the film is finally nearing its release date as these brand new stills of our homegrown heroes have emerged onto the internet:
“Beyond Skyline” is a sequel to 2010’s alien invasion movie “Skyline”. In “Beyond”, Iko Uwais’ character leads an underground resistance against the invading aliens. It’s not clear yet who Yayan Ruhian is portraying (probably an alien slayer by the look of the photo above). The two will be starring alongside Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Warrior”), who is playing a detective trying to save his son from being abducted by aliens.
You can bet that the action scenes will feature some of the same bone-crunching action as “The Raid” since both Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian were brought on board as actors and fight choreographers. There’s also going to be a lot more of Indonesia in the film than the just the duo as the movie was actually filmed in Batam.
Unfortunately, a trailer for “Beyond Skyline” doesn’t exist yet and there’s no definitive release date at the moment. However, IMDB has the movie down for a 2016 release.
