Many of us count ourselves fans of director Gareth Evans’ epic Indonesian action movies, “The Raid: Redemption” and “The Raid 2: Berandal” (we even named The Raid 2 our favorite Indonesian film of 2014). So we were sad to hear from Evans himself on Twitter that the final film in what will be the Raid Trilogy won’t be coming out for at least another 3 years, possibly 4.
Despite still existing mostly in his mind, Evans has been planning the plot of The Raid 3 for quite a while. Before The Raid 2 even came out, he dropped a tweet saying, “I do have a concept in mind. If this one is two hours after ‘The Raid’ finished, ‘Raid 3’ starts three hours before ‘The Raid 2’ finishes. So you go back in time a little and then branch off for a different story.”
While we’re disappointed we’re going to have to wait so long for the final Raid film, it’s probably a good thing that Evans takes plenty of time so he can actually figure out how to top the ridiculously amazing action scenes of the first two films in the series.
And as we know, the hero of The Raid films, Iko Uwais, is going to be busy starring in several international films in the next few years including “Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens.” By the time Evans and Iko are both ready to return to the Raid, they should have something truly special in store for us.
