Indonesia proudly won the Best National Costume award at Miss Universe 2014 thanks to Elvira Devinamira’s beautifully elaborate, 20 kg costume. This year, Puteri Indonesia 2015, Anindya Kusuma Putri, is going to wow the pageant with a bigger, badder, and heavier costume.

Last night, Anindya unveiled the costume she will bring with her to Miss Universe 2015. The costume was designed Dynand Fariz and it’s called ‘Mythical Eyes on Barong’. And you can see why.

“In Balinese mythology, the Barong is a god of courage and a symbol for good. This national costume is an interpretation of the well known Balinese traditional art,” Anindya said at a press conference last night, as quoted by Detik.

The costume reportedly weighs 27 kg, making it 7 kg heavier than last year’s Indonesian national costume. Hats off to Anindya for being able to pull it off and look good while doing it – our legs would instantly crumble if we tried to wear that.

To us, the costume looks like something that would be worn by a boss in a Final Fantasy game – and that’s a good thing. It’s undoubtedly intimidating, which should hopefully be enough for it to win the Best National Costume prize for Indonesia again.

Last year, the Best National Costume award was based on fan votes via Twitter. If that system is repeated this year, then we have no doubt Anindya will win the award, since Indonesia is the most Twitter active country in the world.

Miss Universe 2015 will be held on December 20 in Las Vegas, USA.
