Puteri Indonesia 2015 Anindya Kusuma Putri, who will represent our country in this year’s Miss Universe pageant, caused some controversy some time ago when she posted a photo of herself wearing a hammer and sickle t-shirt. Now it seems she’s at it again.
This time, however, Anindya posted a photo on her Instagram yesterday that would be considered even more controversial by many in Indonesia: a bikini shot. Here’s the post in its full glory:
As you might expect, many reacted negatively to the 23-year-old’s bikini shot. Some netizens commented on the photo by saying that such display of sexiness is out of bounds by Indonesian and Eastern sensibilities:
You don’t deserve to be Puteri Indonesia. Instead of elevating women’s status, you’re downgrading it. Where’s your emancipation?!?!?!?!
Keep going Puteri Indonesia, so you can get plunged into hell.
But some defended Anindya’s from all the criticism:
The commenters talk like they’ve never sinned
Don’t be so closed minded guys. Like it or not, this is a requirement for contesting in Miss Universe
Some commenters were just downright creepy:
[upload] a hotter photo. Don’t mind the negative comments. This is called an expression of the soul
Do you think there should be no problem with Anindya uploading a bikini shot onto a social network? Or should she respect and stay true to Indonesia’s more conservative traditional values?
