In case you don’t know what ‘jancuk’ means, it’s roughly translated as the f-word in Javanese. So that hostile Twitter hashtag in the headline above roughly translates to ‘fuck One Direction’.
Why all the hostility towards a bunch of well-dressed English boys with less-than-average singing voices?
You probably know by now that the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Senayan, South Jakarta, will play host to the One Direction concert on March 25. Coincidentally, the U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers – which include Indonesia, South Korea, Timor Leste, and Brunei Darussalam – were scheduled to take part at the GBK on March 27-31.
But the soccer matches had to be moved to Solo, Central Java as the GBK simply wouldn’t be ready to host multiple soccer matches just two days after a massive concert.
It’s easy to rip on and blame One Direction, and that’s exactly what Indonesia’s netizens did. #OneDirectionJancuk became a trending topic in Jakarta and Indonesia today, as netizens expressed their disgust that One Direction is being prioritized over soccer.
There are also those who defended One Direction, saying the boys aren’t actually the ones to blame:
Not that we’re siding with anyone here, but any soccer match involving Indonesia would be mediocre at best (and you’re fooling yourself if you say otherwise) so whether the Indonesia U-23 team plays in Jakarta or Solo shouldn’t matter. Then again, it’s hard to choose between watching mediocre soccer and One Direction.
