Coachella is set to return this coming April, with Indonesia’s music exports NIKI and Rich Brian finally set to make their debuts at the music festival, which had undergone postponements and cancellations in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s Coachella will be held over two weekends from April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, CA. The festival has just released its full lineup ahead of a presale period for weekend 2, which will go on their official website:

LA-based Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI and rapper Rich Brian are included in the lineup of one of the world’s most famous music festivals. They were previously slated to perform at the 2020 edition before it was canceled, and the news comes as a relief and a confirmation that the artists’ Coachella dreams are still alive.

NIKI and Rich Brian will be the first Indonesian solo artists to perform at the festival. The frontman of Australian band Temper Trap, Indonesian-born Dougy Mandagi, notably graced the festival in 2010.

NIKI will perform on Friday, April 15 and 22 on the same day as headliners Harry Styles, Daniel Caesar, and Phoebe Bridgers. Meanwhile, Rich Brian is scheduled to perform on Saturday, April 16 and 23 alongside headliners Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, and Disclosure.

Their 88rising labelmate Joji, former internet personality-turned R&B and trip-hop Japanese singer, is set to headline the festival. The label has received special billing with “88rising’s Head in The Clouds Forever,” which implies either a special performance or a separate stage featuring their artists. A festival of the same name, which is also organized by the label, is the first full-Asian music event to be held in the United States.

Other than those mentioned above, the lineup for this year’s Coachella sounds pretty exciting with acts such as Korean DJ Peggy Gou, K-hip hop trio Epik High, and US experimental pop band Japanese Breakfast. There are also huge names like English DJ Jamie XX, US rappers Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Doja Cat, and hip hop duo Run the Jewels.

Brian and NIKI, who are both 22, were recently involved in the OST album for Marvel Studio’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Brian collaborated with DJ Snake and Rick Ross in Run It, while Niki contributed the super catchy Every Summertime to the album.

NIKI’s latest release was a single titled Split. She also had a feature appearance on HONNE’s song, Coming Home, while Brian was featured in viral hit Edamame with Canadian rapper bbno$ (pronounced as “baby no money”) and released a single titled New Tooth. The two of them also released a single titled California, which saw them collaborating with fellow 88rising Indonesian musician, Warren Hue, last year.
