If you have flown out of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s Terminal 3, you probably noticed the huge glass covered building slowly taking shape nearby. In case you didn’t know, that building has been dubbed “Terminal 3 Ultimate,” an expansion of the airport capable of processing 25 million passengers per year.

Terminal 3 Ultimate will mainly house national carrier Garuda Airlines’ expanding fleet of planes, but its designers say it will also house a national art gallery to show off Indonesian culture.

“There’s no need to go all the way overseas to introduce [foreigners to Indonesian culture], at the airport there are millions of people who can see the artwork of our nation,” said Murdjatmodjo Djoko, Director of Operations and Engineering at airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, as quoted by Tribunnews.

Djoko said the terminal would not just feature art but also be infused with an artistic design sense.

“Terminal 3 Ultimate is being built with a touch of art. We are working with artists like Nyoman Nuarta so that later there is a strong sense of artistry throughout,” Djoko said.

According to Djoko, work on Terminal 3 Ultimate is about 80 percent complete and it is scheduled to be opened by May 2016.
