Netizens bash musician Sherina Munaf for supporting same-sex marriage

If there’s anything we learned about Indonesia’s stance on same-sex marriage following the historic ruling in the US, it’s that we’re nowhere near ready for it.

Sherina Munaf, best known as a child musician in the noughties, took to Twitter to express her delight at the legalization of same-sex marriage across the US.

As expected, Indonesian netizens were scathing in their criticism of Sherina’s liberal views:

Damn, seeing this tweet makes me want to throw out all your albums that I own and still listen to now

[Sherina] should learn about Islam again. Islam forbids LGBT, so if you want to be a Muslim, repent from LGBT.

What would your parents say?? Were you born from a same-sex couple?

Are you still busy promoting LGBT? I know you’re an L (lesbian). I just pray you can become normal again. Amen.

There were, fortunately, still a handful open-minded netizens who defended Sherina:

We can only commend Sherina for promoting open-mindedness at the risk of tainting her popularity. Without outspoken figures, Indonesians will be stuck in a dark pit of hate and denial forever.
