We’ve been dying to see Bon Iver play a concert in Indonesia since forever ago (damn you, Singapore). Well, today we were treated to the news that Justin Vernon and co. are heading to Jakarta early next year.
Music promoter Ismaya Live today shared the news that they are bringing the American indie folk act to Jakarta for the band’s first ever concert in the city on January 19, 2020 at Tennis Indoor Senayan.
The concert is part of the band’s first Asia tour after the release of their latest album, i,i (pronounced “I comma I”). Aside from Jakarta, Bon Iver will also perform in Seoul (Jan 12), Bangkok (Jan 15), Singapore (Jan 17), and Tokyo (Jan 21 and 22).
“Bon Iver’s works bring their listeners to a certain time and a unique atmosphere. In their concert, Bon Iver will bring the audience to their own frameworks that are full of contemplation and self-reflection,” Ismaya Live’s brand manager Sarah Deshita said in a press release issued today.
The concert will be an 18+ event, and ticket sales will commence on Thursday, September 19 through Ismaya Live’s official website. There will be two ticket categories, GA Standing at IDR950,000 and GA Tribune at IDR750,000 (before 15% tax). If you’re an Ismaya Lifestyle member, you may receive an early pre-sale access that will be sent to your email.
Bon Iver was founded by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon, who hails from the US state of Wisconsin. The name “Bon Iver” is derived from “bon hiver”, which is French for “good winter”. Vernon learned of the phrase while he was bedridden with mononucleosis hepatitis at his father’s cabin one winter, which was when he began watching the 1990s TV series Northern Exposure. He saw an episode that depicted a group of people in Alaska wishing each other bon hiver.
With Bon Iver, Vernon has released four studio albums: For Emma, Forever Ago (2008), Bon Iver, Bon Iver (2011), 22, A Million (2016), and i, i (2019). For Bon Iver’s live performances, Vernon usually tours with a band consisting of various sets of members. Vernon is also known for his extensive cross-genre collaborations, mainly hip hop, as he has been featured in works by Kanye West, Vince Staples, Lizzo, as well as his duo, Kids See Ghosts with Kid Cudi, and pop act Francis and The Lights.
