Music streaming service Spotify is coming to Indonesia on March 30!

Indonesia is finally getting to join the rest of the world in the streaming media candystore. After getting the world’s premiere video streaming service, Netflix, Indonesia is next in line to join the cool kids by getting what most people consider the world’s best music streaming service – Spotify.

Until now, Spotify hasn’t been available in Indonesia (unless of course you’re a sneaky VPN user). But on March 30, everyone here will be able to access Spotify legally.

Guess what’s coming to Indonesia?

Spotify is a freemium music streaming service that entitles paying users to better audio quality and the ability to listen to music offline.

Spotify’s entrance into Indonesia is likely to be met with strong competition from existing legal music streaming services available in the country. As per Tech in Asia, that includes Apple Music, Deezer, Guvera, and homegrown services like Telkom’s MelOn.

Of course, Spotify may also face more challenges than competition in entering Indonesia. Netflix was nearly blocked by the government when it arrived in Indonesia due to legal issues. In fact, telcom giant Telkom did eventually block Netflix, and considering they own a music streaming service in MelOn, we wouldn’t be too surprised if they blocked Spotify as well.

Apologies for being such a cynic, but it is Monday morning after all. In any case, we are so ready for Spotify to bring on the tunes on March 30!
