The Jakarta Metro Police has launched an investigation into the whereabouts of Miss Indonesia 2019 Frederika Cull, who was last in contact with her mother two months ago.
Frederika’s mother, Yulia Peers, who lived with Frederika, was summoned to provide testimony at the Jakarta Metro Police HQ yesterday.
To the press, Yulia said she had a row with Frederika when she last spoke to her daughter in September.
“In September, she departed to Bali for a 2-week shoot. She said farewell to me, and we wanted to communicate during her holiday. There was a slight misunderstanding [before she left]. It was just a mother-daughter row, nothing major,” Yulia said, hinting vaguely that the conflict was driven by a financial matter.
Yulia added that she suspects her friend, who is identified by her initial N, brainwashed Frederika into leaving her. According to Yulia, N sent Frederika a letter claiming that she is her birth mother.
“There was a drastic change in Fred [since receiving the letter]. Total change; my instinct told me something was wrong… I heard from someone that [Frederika] is now in Jakarta,” Yulia said.
“I asked [N about Frederika’s disappearance], but I did not get a polite response from her. She’s trying to control Fred. She said, ‘She is my daughter.’ Imagine someone else claiming your child. When my daughter left, her attitude had changed.”
Yulia’s lawyer, Ery Kertanegara, said the police asked questions to establish a biological relationship between his client and Frederika, and even went as far as examining her supposed royal bloodline to an ancient West Java kingdom — a rumor that was made public by N. Earlier this month, Yulia denied the rumor, and filed a complaint with the police over what she believed was an attempt to take Frederika away from her.
Frederika has been active on social media since her Bali trip in September. Her last Instagram post came on Nov. 5.
Frederika, 22, was crowned Miss Indonesia in 2019, representing Jakarta. She went on to represent Indonesia at Miss Universe 2019, where she became the nation’s first to crack the top 10 at the ultimate beauty pageant.
