Susi Pudjiastuti is much more than Indonesia’s minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. She’s also a highly successful businesswoman (having started her own airline, Susi Air) an avid paddle boater, renowned environmentalist, rock star, and Wonder Woman.

She can now add runway model to that impressive resume.

Yesterday, Susi caused a stir when she announced on social media that she would be walking the catwalk of Jakarta Fashion Week in Senayan City that night for designer Anne Avantie.

As Susi mentions in the post, she decided to walk the runway in order to help fishermen affected by the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Central Sulawesi on September 28. Avantie promised to donate 10 fishing boats to them if Susi would strut her stuff and so the Fisheries minister agreed.

And, as promised, Susi showed up on the stage during Avantie’s fashion show and was greeted with thunderous cheers from the audience.

Susi’s appearance in Avantie’s show was quite appropriate as its theme was “The Storm Will Surely Pass” and was meant as a tribute to those who survived the disasters in Central Sulawesi.

Susi reacted to all of the attention with her usual combination of good humor and modesty.

Well, we’re afraid we’ll have to respectfully disagree with the minister and say she has more charisma in her little finger than most models do in their whole bodies. Since those VP rumors turned out to be false, perhaps she can consider a future in fashion after she’s done saving the world’s oceans.
