Meinar Louis, composer of children’s nursery rhyme ‘Bintang Kecil’, passes away at 85

If you grew up in Indonesia, you probably know every word to the nursery rhyme ‘Bintang Kecil’ (Little Star), the country’s very own ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’. Sadly, the woman who wrote the song passed away yesterday.

According to Bintang.com, Meinar Louis passed away at Cipto Mangunkusomo Hospital at noon yesterday. She entered the hospital on July 25 because of an unspecified lung condition.

Meinar Louis dedicated her life to entertaining children. In addition to penning the ubiquitous ‘Bintang Kecil’, she also often sang for children in kindergartens around the country.

Meinar may have passed away, but her legacy, her star, will shine bright for as long as Indonesian children keep singing her song.
