You know Madame Tussauds, the world famous wax museum full of the spookily realistic statues of famous and fictional characters who all come to life when you’re not looking at them? (Okay, we made that last part up – but still, creepy.) Well, the branch of Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong recently asked if they could make a wax statue of our nation’s leader, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, to add to their collection.
After some consideration, the presidential palace accepted the museum’s request, saying it would be an excellent way to promote Indonesia to foreign countries.
“We agree. Because the statue is an instrument to promote Indonesia to the world. The museum is visited by the foreign tourists,” Presidential Secretariat Head Darmansjah Djumala told Kompas vis SMS on Monday.
Djumala said that several different clothing options would be made for the Jokowi statue so that it could show various Indonesian fashions on different days, such as batik.
The offer to make the Jokowi statue came from the museum after a poll of visitors was conducted to determine which world leader they thought was most worthy of being included next in the the museum. Jokowi apparently beat out both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the poll to claim his spot.
Jokowi’s statue will be placed in a hall along with other world leaders. He will be the third Indonesian to join Madame Tussaud’s collection after first president Soekarno and pop singer Anggun.
