Verrys Yamarno, best known for portraying the outgoing clever little boy Mahar in the hugely popular 2008 movie, Laskar Pelangi, was found dead in his room at a homestay in Senen, Central Jakarta, on Monday. The teenager from Belitung was 18 years old.

Zulfani Fasa, Verrys’ college friend at the Jakarta Arts Institute, told the police that Verrys had been complaining about a headache for the past two days, but refused hospital treatment.

“At 8 am today, the victim vomited. Because he refused to go to the hospital, he was left behind as the witness (Zulfani) left for campus,” said Police Commissioner Kasmono, head of the Senen Police Department, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

At 2:30 pm, Zulfani returned to Verrys’ room only to find Verrys lifeless.

“The witness rubbed the victim’s chest, but the victim was no longer breathing,” Kasmono said.

Verrys’ body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for an autopsy.

“So far, there were no signgns of violence on the victim’s body,” Kasmono said.
