Joko Anwar, one of Indonesia’s most critically-acclaimed filmmakers, is currently in Cannes, France, as part of Indonesia’s delegation to the Cannes Film Festival. In addition to representing our country’s film industry and shopping his latest award-winning movie, “A Copy of My Mind” to the international marketplace, Joko also announced two of his upcoming projects.
One of those projects is a unique collaboration with four of Southeast Asia’s hottest directors that is being funded by National Gallery Singapore.
Called “Art Through Our Eyes”, it will be an anthology of short films, each inspired by a famous work of art from each director’s home country. Joko’s film will be based on painter Raden Saleh’s 1839 masterpiece “Wounded Lion”.

The other award-winning directors joining the project will be Thailand’s Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the Philippines’ Brilliante Mendoza, Malaysia’s Ho Yuhang and Singapore’s Eric Khoo, who initiated the project with National Gallery Singapore.
Khoo told Screendaily: “It is every filmmaker’s dream to be involved in projects that are meaningful. I’m truly excited about this omnibus film paying tribute to some of Southeast Asia’s finest artists.”
The plan is for all of the shorts to be completed by August so that they can be showcased together sometime this year.
In addition to his work on the omnibus, Joko also announced that while he is in Cannes he would be looking for partners for “Remarkable Things During A Killing”, his next full-length film project.
