Indonesians are some of the biggest Harry Potter fans in the world, with each translated tome in the mega-successful fantasy series selling huge here numbers upon their release and demand for the books remaining high to this day (some researchers think Pottermania may even have caused a spike in the illegal owl trade in Indonesia).

To celebrate the two decades since author J.K. Rowling kickstarted her mega-successful fantasy series with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the local license holder for the series, Gramedia Pustaka Utama, decided to release special 20th-anniversary editions of the books featuring brand new cover art from an Indonesian artist.

Gramedia tapped local illustrator Nicholas F. Chandrawienata, aka Nicholas Filbert, to create the new covers and the first in the special edition series hit shelves in March.

Diniarty “Dini” Pandia, senior fiction editor of Gramedia in charge of the Harry Potter series, recently took to Twitter to show off a preview of Nicholas’ cover for the fifth book in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which will go on sale on August 24.

Like Nicholas’ other special edition covers, his Order of the Phoenix illustration is centered around one of the series’ “fantastic beasts”, with his detailed, anime-like renderings of the books’ colossal cast of characters filling out the sides. The artist said in a Facebook post announcing his work on the series that he found the fantastic beasts to be one of most interesting aspects of the Harry Potter’s world

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter dan Batu Bertuah) I am happy to share that after a long approval process, The Indonesian version of Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling will hit the stores on March 2017. For these covers, my goal was to push one of the most interesting aspects of the Harry Potter world which is the Fantastic Beast! I have been a huge fan of the series and I have read all the books and watched all the movies, So when my editor challenged me to do the project, its one of the easiest yes I've said in my life, yet I'm totally aware that the approval process is going to be interesting and scary at the same time! Regardless, I am really happy and proud that I can be a part of this, hopefully we Indonesians can be proud that we finally have our own Harry Potter book cover yay! And also thanks to my editor Mbak @dinipandia helped me through this intense process. Cheers! . . . #harrypotter #harrypotterworld #indonesia #book #illustration #fantasticbeasts #jkrowling #nickfilbert
