Matthew White, an Indonesian child actor who rose to fame after starring in the Danur horror film series, passed away yesterday. He was 12 years old.
Oki Hartanto, a representative from Matthew’s management, said that the actor died at a hospital in Jakarta last night after undergoing treatment for diabetes, which he had long suffered from. He reportedly inherited the disease from his father, and had to closely monitor his diet from an early age.
According to Oki, Matthew fell unconscious after his health deteriorated on Saturday. He passed away the next day, and was buried at a cemetery in his hometown of Tegal, Central Java this morning.
Matthew rose to fame after starring as Hendrick, a Dutch boy ghost, in Danur 2: Maddah (2018) and Danur 3: Sunyaruri (2019).
In the series, Hendrick is a ghost friend of Risa, played by popular sinetron (Indonesian soap opera) actress Prilly Latuconsina. The Danur series is an adaptation of books by singer-author Risa Saraswati, who’s famous for her supernatural claims such as being able to communicate with ghosts and spirits alike.
