Indonesian celebrity Vanessa Angel and her husband, Febri “Bibi” Andriansyah, were killed in a single-vehicle collision this afternoon.

The accident occurred on the Jombang section of Nganjuk-Surabaya highway in East Java. There were five people inside the white Pajero SUV at the time of the incident, namely Vanessa, Bibi, their toddler son Gala, the son’s caretaker, and their driver, who were traveling to Surabaya from Jakarta.

Usman Latif, who heads East Java Police’s Traffic Directorate, said the driver, who was drowsy, lost control of the vehicle before it hit a concrete divider on the left side of the toll road. The car bounced off the divider and spun around before it came to a stop. At the time of the accident, the weather was sunny and the traffic was smooth.

Vanessa and Bibi reportedly died on site while the three other victims were rushed to the nearest hospital after reportedly sustaining heavy injuries.

Only hours before the accident, Vanessa and Bibi uploaded several stories on Instagram from inside the car, which showed Gala and the scenery around the highway. According to reports, the family was on their way to attend an event.

Born Vanessa Adzania, the celeb started her career in the entertainment industry as a model, before branching into acting in sinetron (Indonesian soap opera) in 2008. Vanessa also released several singles, including featuring on a song by actor Nicky Tirta titled Indah Cintaku (The Beauty of My Love) in 2011.

Vanessa gained nationwide recognition for her alleged involvement in a highly lucrative prostitution ring in early January 2019, when she was arrested along with another model in Surabaya. On the day of her arrest, police identified Vanessa as one of the women they had secured, even though she was only a witness at that time — going against standard police procedure of not revealing the identity of witnesses to the public.

Since then, Vanessa became the subject of endless salacious stories in local media, with articles reporting on her life behind bars as well as her private life. Following her release, Vanessa was active as an entrepreneur and influencer along with her husband Bibi.
