Nagita Slavina, one of the most popular celebrities in Indonesia, has found herself in the middle of a sex tape scandal featuring a woman who looks just like her. Police say the video was undoubtedly doctored.

With the video circulating widely online, Nagita and her husband Raffi Ahmad posted a video on their YouTube channel, RANS Entertainment, to clear the air.

“That’s clearly not me [in the clip], I initially didn’t want to clarify this,” Nagita said.

“At first I didn’t want to clarify either, but because of the [implication of the video], I can’t [be silent]. I will not keep my silence when my wife is being disturbed,” Raffi added.

Separately, a lawyer named Pitra Romadoni Nasution has filed a police report against social media accounts that have spread the sex tape, alleging them of violating Indonesia’s anti-pornography laws and the Information and Electronic Transactions Act (UU ITE).

Pitra filed the report as a concerned citizen and was accompanied by his own legal counsel. It’s unclear at this point whether or not Pitra is an acquaintance of Nagita and Raffi, but he stressed that he filed the report because what the spreaders did was “very malicious.”

The scandal unsurprisingly brought out internet sleuths and video editing experts, who say that the clip was indeed doctored using deepfake technology. They have also found the pre-doctored original video.

Wisnu Wardhana, who heads Central Jakarta Police’s Crime Investigation Unit, confirmed that the sex tape was fabricated.

“The result of our coordination with the Jakarta Metro Police’s Cyber Crime Unit shows that the video was fake — it’s the result of editing,” Wisnu said.

Authorities have not yet determined who made the deepfake video of Nagita.

Spreading pornographic content online is a crime punishable by up to four years in prison in Indonesia.
